Kuban’s 100,000-ruble bonus lures top students into rural medicine careers

Nearly 300 high-achieving school leavers in Kuban have each received 100,000 rubles as an incentive to pursue a career in medicine. The program targets bright students, many of whom later enroll at Kuban State Medical University. Most choose to remain in their home region rather than study elsewhere, helping to address staff shortages in rural areas where healthcare services often struggle to attract professionals.

Of the university's graduates, 87% go on to work in medicine. Around 65% secure positions in hospitals and clinics across Krasnodar Krai. For the upcoming academic year, 40% of the 2024–2025 class will be assigned to rural healthcare posts. The scheme not only supports individual careers but also strengthens primary care in underserved settlements. The initiative has two clear outcomes: more doctors stay in Kuban, and remote communities gain much-needed medical staff. By linking financial rewards to local education and employment, the region builds a more stable healthcare workforce.

The 100,000-ruble incentive has already directed hundreds of top students into Kuban's medical system. With a high retention rate among graduates, the program eases shortages in rural clinics. Over time, this approach could further stabilize healthcare access across the region.
