KREA during summer: "What's my connection?"
In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, the Creative School Bergisch Gladbach captivated its community with an engaging Open Source project in July 2025. This unique initiative aimed to foster creativity, connection, and collaboration among participants from various social backgrounds, including families with a refugee background.
The project was a resounding success, offering a diverse range of workshops that catered to different artistic interests. Jens Mühlhoff led a workshop using sounds and nature recordings to create digital music collages with the help of creative apps. Meanwhile, Gregor Zootzky employed natural materials like wood and clay to construct miniature buildings, houses, castles, and landscapes.
Art enthusiasts were treated to two distinct art workshops. Markus Parnow focused on colour, shape, and line, resulting in concrete and abstract artworks on canvas and paper. Simultaneously, Almut Wiedenmann and André Eigenbrod led a workshop that strengthened the basics of lived democracy and designed freedom through art and culture.
The performative aspect of the project was spearheaded by Christoph Wolf and Miriam Burger, who led a workshop focusing on the theme of connectedness, building a performance around the question "What am I connected to?" Daniel Richartz also contributed to the project by leading daily dance training and creative movement tasks, culminating in a self-choreographed performance.
The Open Source project was developed and implemented in a participatory and interdisciplinary manner. It sought interfaces between the workshops, tested them, and found success in the Open Source project, which was funded by the Kultur-Rucksack NRW.
The project took place on a spacious playground/meadow/recreation area behind the house row "An der Wallburg" in Refrath. Free spaces for creative workshops were created, fostering a connection with nature and opening up creative ideas.
Despite limited information available on specific details of the Open Source project during its implementation in July 2025, it is clear that the project overcame artistic boundaries and tested new creative concepts. It will continue to be offered in 2025, providing opportunities for more individuals to engage in this innovative and engaging project.
