Kazakhstan's President Demands Overhaul of Law Enforcement's Digital Failures
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for urgent reforms in the country's law enforcement agencies. He highlighted major gaps in their digital transformation, warning that fragmented systems and weak data protection are putting citizens at risk. The push comes as part of broader constitutional changes aimed at strengthening the rule of law across the nation.
Speaking on the current state of law enforcement, Tokayev criticised agencies for developing digital tools independently, without a unified strategy. This lack of coordination has led to inconsistent systems, making it harder to enforce laws effectively. He ordered a full audit of all existing digital solutions to streamline operations and create a single, standardised ecosystem.
The president also raised concerns over rising cases of personal data leaks. He stressed the need for stronger safeguards to protect citizens' information in an increasingly digital world. Alongside this, he called for wider adoption of artificial intelligence and digitalisation across society, not just in law enforcement.
Tokayev reinforced that 'Law and Order' must remain a core principle of state policy. He instructed the Prosecutor General's Office to take a stricter stance on legal violations, making it clear that officials cannot ignore wrongdoing. These measures align with Kazakhstan's ongoing constitutional reforms, which aim to reshape the country's political system and governance structure.
The proposed audit and digital overhaul will assess how law enforcement agencies currently operate. Stricter data protection rules and a unified digital framework are expected to improve efficiency and security. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General's Office will play a key role in enforcing the new standards under the revised Constitution.
