Kazakhstan’s Free Digital School Transforms Education for Thousands
A free digital school in Kazakhstan, Mektep-Online, is helping students across the country access quality education. Launched in 2019 by teacher and activist Aruzhan Sain, it offers thousands of lessons in Kazakh and Russian. The platform aims to bridge gaps in traditional schooling by providing flexible, no-cost learning for all children. The project began with a nationwide search for skilled teachers, selected through a casting process to ensure high teaching standards. Since its launch, Mektep-Online has grown into a vast resource with over 7,000 lessons available. Lessons cover core subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Geometry, each lasting no more than 15 minutes. Students can access the material without registration, removing barriers for those with limited resources. The platform addresses long-standing inequalities in Kazakhstan’s education system, providing equal opportunities for students from different regions and backgrounds. With Mektep-Online, learners can study at their own pace, choosing times when they feel most productive. Now serving as a key tool for students seeking flexible, high-quality education, the free lessons, available in both Kazakh and Russian, help level the playing field for children regardless of location or income. The initiative continues to expand, offering more subjects and reaching more learners across the country.
