Kazakhstan’s bold new program trains future teachers for free in Mangistau
A new pilot program has begun in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau Region to train future teachers. Launched in late 2024 by Akim Nurdaulet Kilybayev, the initiative aims to tackle the local shortage of educators. Nineteen students from Mangistau are already enrolled in the tuition-free scheme at Shymkent’s Nuzbek Zhanibekov State Pedagogical University.
The program offers participants free accommodation in dormitories and access to language courses. They can also take part in other university activities as part of their training. Upon completion, graduates will receive state-issued diplomas alongside additional certificates.
The initiative is a strategic priority for Mangistau Region. Its goal is to strengthen the education system by developing both professional skills and personal growth among future teachers. Akim Kilybayev introduced the project in Aktau, marking it as a key step in addressing regional staffing gaps.
The first group of students is now studying at Shymkent’s pedagogical university. The program’s focus on free tuition, housing, and skill development aims to build a stronger teaching workforce in Mangistau. Graduates will enter the profession with both official qualifications and practical training.
