Kazakhstan Unveils Alem.AI to Spearhead National Artificial Intelligence Growth
Kazakhstan has launched Alem.AI, a major new centre designed to accelerate the country's development in artificial intelligence. The project aims to create a national AI ecosystem by fostering innovation, attracting global talent, and boosting research across key industries. Leaders say it will position Kazakhstan as a regional hub for cutting-edge technology. The Alem.AI centre integrates multiple components under one roof. These include a public space for collaboration, the Tomorrow School of Artificial Intelligence for specialised training, and the TUMO Centre for Creative Technologies. A startup campus, research labs, and an AI-driven Government zone for GovTech solutions will also operate within the facility.
The project sets ambitious yearly goals. By 2029, it plans to engage 10,000 talented individuals, train 1,000 AI specialists, launch 100 startups, and complete 10 research initiatives. Its broader mission includes supporting youth, nurturing promising IT projects, and expanding AI applications in science, manufacturing, creative fields, and public services. Officials anticipate the centre will significantly boost Kazakhstan's tech exports. Projections suggest AI solutions developed there could generate $5 billion in export revenue by 2029. The initiative also seeks to attract both local and international experts to drive innovation forward. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Hungarian counterpart Tamás Sulyok briefed media representatives on the project. However, details about the selection process for Alem.AI's location in Astana—or its specific role as a central hub—remain undisclosed.
