JSW-POSCO’s $6B stainless steel plant in Odisha to create 8,000 jobs
JSW-POSCO greenfield stainless steel plant in Keonjhar gets land nod; project to create 8K jobs
Sources said the state government is planning to acquire only agricultural land with no displacement issues and to avoid inhabited areas for faster land acquisition.
The US steel giant JSW Group and South Korean POSCO have joined forces to build a massive steel plant in Odisha’s Keonjhar district. The plant, with an annual capacity of 6 million tonnes, is set to be a major industrial development in the region. Officials have already begun securing land for the greenfield site.
The partnership between JSW Group and POSCO took shape in October 2023 when the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding. By August 2024, they formalised their plans further with a non-binding agreement to explore an integrated stainless steel plant, along with potential collaborations in battery materials and renewable energy.
The JSW-POSCO stainless steel plant represents one of Odisha’s largest industrial investments in recent years. With land allocation progressing and regulatory steps underway, the project moves closer to realisation. The facility’s completion will significantly boost local employment and industrial output.
