Dumelo urges youth to embrace agriculture, entrepreneurship at VYE forum

John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, has encouraged young people in the Volta Region to take advantage of the vast opportunities in agriculture and entrepreneurial skills.

The Volta Youth Entrepreneurs Forum took place during the Volta Trade and Investment Fair in Ho. Organised under the theme 'Empowering Volta's Young Entrepreneurs for Global Partnerships and a Thriving 24-Hour Economy,' the event brought together young business owners, CEOs, traditional leaders, and aspiring people. Speakers urged the region’s youth to explore agriculture and entrepreneurial skills as pathways to economic independence.

John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, highlighted the need for young people to consider farming and business ventures. He stressed that not everyone would secure formal employment, making self-employment a practical alternative. His remarks echoed concerns about Ghana’s reliance on imported goods, which a stronger local agricultural sector could help reduce.

The forum provided practical guidance on business development and tax incentives. Participants left with clearer options for starting and sustaining enterprises. Organisers hope the event will inspire more young people in the Volta Region to pursue entrepreneurial skills and agriculture.
