Jersey's young engineers shine at UK STEM Racing Finals with top awards
Two teams from Jersey have earned top honours at the UK STEM Racing National Finals. The competition, supported locally by Digital Jersey and C5 Alliance, saw over 70 teams take part, including international entries. Young engineers from the island demonstrated their skills in engineering, problem-solving, and teamwork on a national stage.
Victoria College Preparatory School's team, Fire Tyres, secured the fastest reaction time trophy. They also recorded the fifth quickest car in the entire competition. Their performance earned them shortlist nominations for the Future Vision Award and the David Barnard Recognition of Achievement Award.
FCJ Primary's team, Takedown, won the Verbal Presentation Award. Judges recognised their strong teamwork and clear communication skills during the event. The STEM Racing programme aims to build confidence, creativity, and technical abilities among young people. It also introduces them to potential careers in technology and engineering. Charlie Miles, Innovation Manager at Digital Jersey, highlighted the success of Jersey's participants at the national level. Digital Jersey now plans to grow the programme further. The goal is to encourage more young people into technology and engineering careers.
The achievements of Fire Tyres and Takedown highlight the talent emerging from Jersey's STEM initiatives. With expanded participation planned, more students could soon gain exposure to engineering and technology opportunities. The programme continues to provide hands-on experience and career inspiration for young learners.
