Jamey Miller, beloved educator and entrepreneur, dies at 86 after a life of teaching and family
James 'Jamey' Bryan Miller, a long-time educator and entrepreneur from Altoona, PA, has passed away at the age of 86. His death occurred on January 18, 2026, after a life dedicated to teaching, family, and community. A funeral service will be held on January 28 at St. John Chrysostom Antiochian Orthodox Church in York, PA.
Born on May 18, 1939, in Altoona, Jamey was the son of Arthur and Charlotte Miller. He earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Lock Haven University before completing a Master of Education in mathematics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
His career spanned decades in education, where he taught high school mathematics and computer science at Altoona Area School District and Warwick School District. He also served as an adjunct professor in the same subjects for multiple universities. Beyond teaching, he owned and operated Abraham’s Bar and Grill in Altoona. Jamey married Geebie (Nohaile) Miller, and the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2025. He leaves behind his wife, three sons, two grandchildren, a great-grandson, and a brother. The family has requested that, in place of flowers, donations be made to The Healing Journey Foundation or St. John Chrysostom Antiochian Church.
The funeral service will take place on January 28, 2026, at St. John Chrysostom Antiochian Orthodox Church in York, PA. Memorial contributions will support causes close to Jamey’s life and values. His legacy remains in the students he taught, the business he built, and the family he cherished.
