In a grand ceremony, Dr Somsak Leeswadtrakul and Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, a prominent Thai philanthropist and sports leader, received Italy's highest national honours. Dr Somsak, a leading business tycoon, was bestowed the Commendatore dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia (OSI). Khunying Patama, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), received the Commendatore dell'Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (OMRI). This is Italy's highest-ranking civilian order, bestowed upon individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the Republic in various fields. As Chair of the IOC Culture and Heritage Commission, Khunying Patama pledged continued support for initiatives tied to Milano Cortina 2026.

In addition to her roles in sports, Khunying Patama serves as the Chairperson of the Centre for Morality Promotion (Public Organization), the Cultural Promotion Fund, Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, and the Chair of the Board of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO).
