IW Study: Iranians exceptionally well integrated into German job market - Iranian immigrants in Germany excel in jobs and education over peers

Iranian nationals in Germany are outperforming many other immigrant groups in employment and education. Over half of working-age Iranians hold jobs, with a significant number working in skilled roles. Their qualifications and earnings also stand out compared to other foreign-born residents.

Data shows that 58.6% of Iranian nationals in Germany are employed, a higher rate than Afghan, Iraqi, and Syrian communities. Among those working, 43.3% possess a university degree—more than double the 19.5% seen in other immigrant groups. This education gap contributes to their strong labour market position.

Around 73% of employed Iranians work in skilled professions, earning above-average wages for people with immigrant backgrounds. Iranian women also fare well, with 41% in employment, slightly above the 39% rate for other immigrant women. While exact figures for Iranians in Germany at the end of 2023 remain unclear, official statistics confirm the country's total foreign population reached 14,070,225 by December 2025. A detailed breakdown for 2023, however, is not available.

The numbers highlight the economic integration of Iranian nationals in Germany. Their high employment rates, strong educational attainment, and skilled job placements set them apart from many other immigrant groups. These trends reflect both their qualifications and their contributions to the German workforce.
