Coronavirus Clamps Down on Education in Kuzbass

An alarming surge of coronavirus infections among students and staff has prompted the shutdown of nine educational institutions throughout Kuzbass, as confirmed by Margarita Novoselova, head of the epidemiological surveillance department of the regional branch of Rospotrebnadzor, during her briefing on Thursday. The affected institutions range from schools, to kindergartens, a medical college, and more.

"Sadly, nine educational establishments are currently shuttered, with seven schools, one secondary educational institution (Angero-Sudzhensk branch of the regional medical college), and one kindergarten in the city of Belovo being included in this total," explains Novoselova.

In addition, a staggering 47 educational institutions have partially switched to distance learning. These institutions include schools, kindergartens, vocational schools, universities, and more.

Elena Zelenina, deputy minister of health of Kuzbass, shares that since the beginning of the academic year, a whopping 69 schools in Kuzbass have reported coronavirus infections. Moreover, she asserts that there are no outbreaks of coronavirus within these schools, and the infection cases are unrelated.

According to data from Rospotrebnadzor, as of September 24, 114 cases of coronavirus infections have been reported in general educational schools, while 23 have arisen in technical schools and colleges, 15 in higher educational institutions, 35 in kindergartens, and 8 in additional educational institutions.

As of the moment, Kuzbass has reported 9,103 cases of coronavirus infections, with a recent increase of 138 confirmed cases over the past 24 hours. So far, 6,732 patients have recovered, 96 have sadly passed away, leaving the remaining cases under strict medical supervision.

These consecutive infections in Kuzbass educational institutions serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing global battle against the coronavirus pandemic, and the precautions needed to safeguard public health.
