Institution unveils brand-new Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design course
Florida International University (FIU) is set to launch a new Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design program, catering specifically to adult learners. The program, which was developed by the institution's education team, led by Dr. Meryl Epstein and Graphic Design Department Head Andrew Shalat, is one of the few online Bachelors programs designed for adult learners.
The BFA program, which will start accepting applications on October 9th and classes will begin on January 4th, 2021, is designed for online learning and has been made possible by the efforts of staff, faculty, advisors, and students during a challenging time for society and higher education.
The program is 100% online and focuses 75% of course credits on art/design studies. It offers an innovative and intensive curriculum focused on contemporary design strategies and theory. The program emphasizes mobility, strategic branding, and social media within a network economy, preparing students for modern, digital-driven markets.
A strong foundation in fine arts is combined with innovative design courses, enabling students to master fundamental design and advanced skills adaptable across multiple disciplines, industries, and professions. Intensive study in design and typography with practical applications in branding and social media is a key component of the program.
The program also features a portfolio-based admission process, supporting the development of professional work from the start. Students will graduate with a focused, professional portfolio of work showcasing their chosen area(s) of study or creative expression.
The BFA program at FIU is recognized for its affordable tuition, making it a cost-effective choice compared to many BFA programs with high tuition costs. Moreover, there are no hidden fees, no textbooks to purchase, and full-time and part-time students are charged at the same tuition rate.
