Oberlin's New Residence Hall, Woodland Hall, Set to Welcome First Students

After a slight delay due to a waterproofing issue, Woodland Hall, Oberlin College's newest residence hall, is all set to welcome its first students this month. Located near the athletics complex, the 402-bed hall has been under construction since spring 2023, and the occupancy permit was secured in June 2025.

The unexpected delay in the opening was caused by a waterproof layer applied before bricklaying that did not meet the college’s standards. This issue was identified in spring 2025 and required redoing the waterproofing at the contractor’s expense. However, additional crews and expanded construction hours during summer minimized the impact on Woodland Hall's timetable for opening.

As construction continues, residents can expect some changes. All active construction areas will be clearly fenced off during this time. To ensure privacy, windows facing active construction areas will be covered with privacy film. The privacy film will be removed once construction is completed.

Crews are currently installing siding-a combination of brick and fiber cement panels-on the south- and east-facing facades of the hall. Installation of siding on the building's north and west facades, as well as the west-facing courtyard, will continue until mid-October.

In addition to the siding work, landscaping for Woodland Hall is planned for early fall. The landscaping of the grounds will be completed in the coming weeks. For further information about Woodland Hall, residents can visit the Residence Life website.

Residents of Woodland Hall will receive an email with move-in guidelines. Questions about move-in can be directed to reslife@our website. Work around Woodland Hall will be confined to limited hours to minimize disruption to students.

The grand-opening festivities for Woodland Hall will be announced in due course. The new 226-space parking lot for Woodland Hall has already been poured and striped.

With the opening of Woodland Hall, Oberlin College continues to expand its residential facilities, providing a comfortable and conducive environment for students.

During their stay at Woodland Hall, residents can utilize the opportunity for education-and-self-development by engaging in learning activities provided in the hall or nearby study spaces. As they explore their new living environment, residents should take advantage of the resources available to them for academic growth and personal development.
