Indore's Multi-Pronged Plan to Tackle Congestion and Boost Road Safety
Indore's traffic management authorities have announced a multi-pronged approach to tackle congestion and improve road safety. This includes a special drive to remove encroachments from major roads, increasing online challan issuance points, and enhancing vehicle fitness checks.
The District Road Safety Committee has planned a special operation targeting VIP Road, Airport Road, YN Road, RNT Road, and four other key routes notorious for traffic bottlenecks. The aim is to clear encroachments and ease congestion. Meanwhile, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will expedite the removal of the BRTS corridor, with traffic police coordinating alternate routes.
Work on the Agrasen Square flyover will commence soon, preceded by a detailed traffic study in Navlakha and surrounding areas. Basements approved for parking will be re-inspected to prevent roadside parking chaos. Collector Shivam Verma has directed officials to maintain service roads and diversions at flyover construction sites, ensuring they are pothole-free and well-asphalted.
To strengthen traffic rule enforcement, the number of traffic squares equipped for online challan issuance will increase from 58 to 94. Starting Monday, five teams will conduct a citywide drive to crack down on unfit vehicles and those without valid fitness certificates.
These initiatives, led by Collector Shivam Verma, aim to ensure smooth traffic movement and reduce road accidents in Indore. With clear roads, proper maintenance, and stricter enforcement, the city aims to improve overall traffic management and safety.
