Prisoners Prepare for School Commencement, Vocational Training, Distance Education - Imprisoned individuals plead for educational programs, vocational training, and online learning opportunities
🔓 Flexing education muscles behind bars 🔓
An astounding number of inmates in Saxony-Anhalt are using their stint behind bars as a springboard to earn a school leaving certificate or complete vocational training. Last year, 28 inmates scored their main or intermediate school leaving certificates, while a whopping 22 inmates finished an initial vocational training or retraining, as reported by the Ministry of Justice in Magdeburg.

Education is no mere afterthought in the juvenile detention center in Raßnitz, where 13 inmates scored their main school leaving certificate, and 9 others achieved their intermediate school leaving certificate. Meanwhile, at the prison in Burg near Magdeburg, 5 inmates snagged the main school leaving certificate, and 1 pocketed the intermediate certificate. There might still be a few exams for school leaving certificates ongoing this year, and currently, no applications for vocational qualifications have been filed.
Embracing the community policy of lifelong learning, prisoners in Saxony-Anhalt are taking advantage of education and self-development opportunities, such as vocational training, for personal growth. Online education platforms are proving to be beneficial, fostering knowledge acquisition and skill development, even within prison walls. The pursuit of learning continues, with the hope that this education-and-self-development journey within the prison system will lead to improved societal integration upon release.
