IIM-Ranchi students fund a makeshift school for Jharkhand’s forgotten village

Students from IIM-Ranchi are funding a makeshift school in Bidikai village, Jharkhand. The initiative follows a news report that highlighted the village’s lack of basic facilities, including education. A team of 25-30 students will visit on January 12 to assess local challenges and plan solutions.

Bidikai village has struggled for decades without proper infrastructure. Despite 78 years of independence, it still lacks roads, electricity, safe drinking water, and schools. Until now, no resident has passed Class 10 exams, and only 5-6 children could afford to travel to distant schools.

The village’s primary school was merged with another due to low attendance, leaving young students without access to education. After a December 24 news report exposed these conditions, IIM-Ranchi decided to step in. The students’ donations will fund a temporary school, with Bogan Hans—the most educated villager—teaching the children for a monthly wage.

A committee will oversee the project, managing funds through a dedicated bank account. While the group’s leader remains unnamed, the focus is on setting up and running the school efficiently.

The new school aims to provide basic primary education to Bidikai’s children. With IIM-Ranchi’s support, the village may finally see progress in literacy and development. The January 12 visit will help shape long-term solutions for the community.
