How Eight Years of Art Transformed Rural Children and Communities

A new exhibition at MOCA Singapore traces an eight-year journey of cross-cultural art between rural Yunnan and Singapore. Titled 3001 KM: Eight Years Between Us, the project began in 2018 when PureView started working with children in rural and marginalised communities. Unlike short-term workshops, the foundation focused on sustained engagement, building relationships over years rather than months. Around 15 to 20 children participated annually, supported by roughly 400 youth and adult volunteers across five regions. The exhibition documents how sustained artistic engagement can transform both individuals and communities. By centring children’s voices and fostering lasting relationships, the project offers a model for youth-focused cultural initiatives. The 2026 biennale will extend this approach, further embedding PureView’s philosophy of patience, agency, and deep connection.
