Vienna has opened a new 500-metre two-way bike lane in Leopoldstadt. The route connects Augarten Park with the Danube Canal, forming a key part of the district’s cycling network. Alongside the lane, the city has launched a greening project to improve the area’s climate resilience.

The bike lane runs along Rembrandtstraße, a one-way street that has been upgraded for safer travel. Sidewalks at several intersections have been extended to improve visibility and shorten crossing distances. The lane itself has been widened, making cycling more comfortable for residents and commuters.

New seating and additional bike racks will be installed to enhance livability. The project also includes a greening initiative, with 13 new trees and two large shrubs planned for planting. A further 19 planting beds and 232 square metres of green space will replace sealed surfaces along the street and its side roads. More greenery will be added in the spring, further transforming the area. The combined changes aim to create a more pleasant and sustainable urban environment.

The upgrades along Rembrandtstraße provide a safer and greener route for cyclists and pedestrians. The expanded bike lane and new green spaces will support Vienna’s efforts to improve mobility and climate adaptation. The project marks another step in the city’s ongoing work to enhance urban living.
