Ho Chi Minh City's Healthcare and Social Welfare Boom: 34 New Hospitals, 1,267 Households Lifted Out of Poverty
Ho Chi Minh City has significantly bolstered its healthcare system and social welfare programmes in recent years. Between 2020 and 2025, the city has added 34 new hospitals and renovated 106 health stations, demonstrating its commitment to prioritising social security and healthcare.
The city's social security policy has been effectively implemented, providing support to meritorious individuals, policy beneficiaries, and those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Free medical examination and treatment programmes, along with health insurance, have been expanded to cover the disadvantaged.
The city's poverty reduction programme has seen remarkable progress. In the first half of 2025 alone, 1,267 poor and near-poor households were lifted out of poverty, with a total budget of over VNĐ13.2 trillion (US$501.3 million) allocated for the programme. The goal is to eliminate poverty entirely by the end of the period.
