High school students explore oil pipeline tech at Transneft-Sever's Uhta facility
Transneft-Sever recently hosted a group of high school students from Uhta's Municipal Lyceum No. 1. The visit to the Uhta Oil Transfer Station gave them firsthand experience of oil pipeline operations. The tour was part of the company's ongoing career guidance programme for young learners.
The field trip was led by Sergei Okladnikov, the company's chief metrologist. He guided the students through the upgraded Oil Quantity and Quality Measurement System (OQQMS), explaining its role in monitoring oil flows.
During the session, the group explored key aspects of oil handling. They learned about metering units, quality assessment techniques, and the piston prover system used for precise measurements. The tour also covered essential oil accounting principles.
Later, the students visited the station's oil testing laboratory. There, they watched technicians analyse oil samples using different testing methods. The practical demonstrations helped them understand real-world applications of the theories they study in school.
Transneft-Sever's initiative aims to familiarise students with careers in oil transportation. By offering such tours, the company hopes to enhance education quality and encourage interest in the energy sector.
