Heide-Nord celebrates 40 years with community spirit and festive traditions
Heide-Nord marked its 40th anniversary in 2025 with a mix of community events and reflections on its past. The neighbourhood, once home to 12,000 people at the time of German reunification, now houses nearly 7,000 residents across Heide-Nord, Blumenau, and Lettin. Celebrations included a lively Christmas market and a graffiti festival, both supported by local organisations and sponsors.
The first families moved into Heide-Nord between 1985 and 1988. Original plans had envisioned eight housing complexes, with further expansion into the Lunzberge area of Lettin. By the early 1990s, the population peaked at 12,000 before gradually declining to its current level.
The 40th anniversary highlighted Heide-Nord’s strong community ties and creative spirit. Events like the Christmas market and graffiti festival brought together residents, local organisations, and officials. Proceeds from the tombola directly supported youth and family services in the area.
