Healthcare Professionals and Ethical Responsibility: The Argument for a Fair Work Environment Approach
On July 31, 2025, a webinar titled "Just Culture in Healthcare: Beyond Blame Toward Accountability" will take place, focusing on promoting accountability in healthcare organizations by fostering a Just Culture environment. This approach moves away from a blame-focused culture to one emphasizing learning and accountability when errors occur in healthcare settings, aiming to improve workforce safety and patient care quality[1][2].
The webinar will feature a distinguished panel of speakers, including:
- Dr. Richard Davis, CEO of Rochester Regional Health, who is recognised for his expertise in healthcare quality, patient safety, and Just Culture implementation. Dr. Davis is known for advocating for the creation of organizational cultures that balance accountability with a non-punitive approach to errors[1].
- Dr. Marcus Schabacker, President & CEO of ECRI, is another speaker renowned for his work in improving health system reliability, patient safety, and culture transformation toward accountability in clinical environments[1].
Before joining Rochester Regional Health, Dr. Davis served as CEO of Henry Ford Health South Market, where he oversaw more than 100 care locations, including two hospitals. Prior to Henry Ford, he was the President and CEO of Sibley Memorial Hospital within Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he spent over 25 years of his career[2]. Dr. Davis holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, a Master's degree in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan[2].
Dr. Marcus Schabacker, with 35 years of healthcare experience and 20 years of senior leadership responsibilities, has served as senior medical officer at the Mafikeng General Hospital in South Africa as part of a humanitarian aid program[1]. He became President and CEO of ECRI in January 2018[1].
