Hautlieu School earns UNICEF Silver Award for championing children's rights

Hautlieu School has once again earned recognition for its commitment to children's rights. The institution was recently reaccredited as a Silver Rights Respecting School by UNICEF. This award highlights the school's ongoing efforts to embed respect and equality into its daily life.

The Silver Rights Respecting School Award is given to schools demonstrating strong progress in promoting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Hautlieu School has built a culture where students feel valued and empowered. Shared values of fairness, respect, and equality shape both teaching and student interactions.

Headteacher Kate Blackhall praised the collective effort behind the achievement. She credited students, staff, and the wider school community for their dedication. The school's initiatives include a student-led campaign against violence toward women and girls, alongside efforts to celebrate linguistic diversity and expand global connections.

Open communication and a focus on children's rights are central to the school's ethos. Staff, students, and parents work together to maintain an inclusive environment. As of early 2026, over 4,000 UK schools hold the Silver accreditation, with Hautlieu standing out for its long-term commitment to these principles.

The reaccreditation confirms Hautlieu School's position as a leader in rights-based education. Its student-led projects and inclusive practices continue to strengthen the school community. The award reflects a sustained effort to ensure every pupil feels respected and heard.
