Halle's spring clean transforms Galgenberg into a litter-free haven
Spring Cleaning: Halle's Municipal Services Join Forces for a Cleaner City
Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes the annual community spring clean organized by Stadtwerke Halle. Employees from the company rolled up their sleeves to clear the Galgenberg area of litter and waste, sending a strong message in favor of a cleaner cityscape. The Galgenberg Gorge—a popular venue for concerts and events—as well as the areas around the viewing platform, playground, soccer field, and skatepark were particularly hard hit by pollution.
The cleanup saw managers, executives, and staff from Stadtwerke Halle working side by side under the guidance of specialists from Hallesche Wasser und Stadtwirtschaft GmbH (HWS). Their commitment demonstrates that Stadtwerke Halle takes pride in keeping the city clean—and that teamwork can be both meaningful and enjoyable. Year-round, HWS cleaning experts ensure Halle remains tidy so residents can feel at home. But a clean city starts with everyone: properly disposing of waste instead of leaving it in nature protects the environment and helps keep our city livable.
The Galgenberg is a beloved destination in Halle an der Saale. Countless paths lead to the gorge, surrounding meadows, and the playground with its soccer field and skatepark—areas that volunteers painstakingly cleared by hand. Employees from across the Stadtwerke Halle Group signed up willingly to give back to the city where they live and work. Equipped with vests, gloves, trash bags, and grabber tools provided by HWS, they worked together—and had a good time doing it.
HWS Works Year-Round for Cleanliness and Waste Management HWS ensures a clean, livable city 365 days a year. Key responsibilities include regular cleaning of streets, paths, and squares, as well as emptying public trash bins across Halle. Their services also cover leaf removal, clearing overgrowth from footpaths and bike lanes, winter road maintenance, and the disposal of dog waste and Christmas trees. Beyond standard waste collection, HWS offers additional services: annual bulky waste and old electrical appliance pickups, rentable containers in various sizes, and collection points for glass, used clothing, and small electrical devices at multiple locations. Once a year, the HWS mobile washing unit visits residents free of charge to clean residual waste and organic waste bins.
