Halle's Oxfam Shop celebrates one year of sustainable impact and community growth
The Oxfam Shop in Halle is marking its first year on March 27 with live music and a prize wheel. The charity store has quickly become a local spot for sustainable shopping while raising funds for global justice projects. Over the past 12 months, nearly 24,000 donated items found new owners.
Since opening, the shop has helped save over 24 million litres of water by promoting secondhand goods. Every sale contributes to Oxfam's development work and social justice campaigns. The team now wants to expand by recruiting more volunteers who enjoy customer service and want to support the cause.
Rhea Matschke, one of the volunteers, describes the shop as motivating. She values its focus on sustainability, activism, and meeting people from different backgrounds. The Halle branch is part of a wider network, with 56 Oxfam Shops across Germany. Around 3,400 volunteers nationwide help run these stores, selling donated clothes, books, and household items.
The anniversary event will celebrate a year of growth for the Halle shop. Its success reflects broader efforts to reduce waste and fund humanitarian work. Organisers hope the celebration will attract even more supporters to the cause.
