Greifswald's 'Weeks of Demenz' Offers Support, Awareness, and Engagement
A series of events focused on dementia awareness and support, including 'apple support' for those affected, is set to take place in Greifswald from September 12 to 28, 2025. Organized by the Demenz Network and the Demenz & Culture Network, the 'Weeks of Demenz' aim to provide a platform for exchange, information, and shared experiences among those affected by dementia, their relatives, and professionals. The event kicks off on September 12 with an ILWIA action day 'Living in old age' at the Fish Market, featuring a dementia simulator, quiz, and information. Throughout the weeks, various workshops, lectures, and activities are scheduled. On September 16, a dementia-sensitive zoo visit is organized at the Greifswald Zoo from 14:00 to 16:00, costing 7 Euro with registration required. On September 17, an exchange with the Senior Citizens' Council, Care Support Point, and others takes place at the House of Encounter from 9:00 to 12:00. A lecture on 'Dealing & communication with people with dementia' is offered at the Neighborhood Help Association WGG on September 25 from 14:00 to 16:00, followed by coffee and cake. Also on September 25, a workshop for school classes on 'Knietzsche and dementia' is held at the City Library from 10:00 to 11:00. The program also includes a lecture titled 'Perspective change - experiencing dementia' followed by an exchange at the Town Hall on September 23 from 14:30 to 16:30. A conversation offer for relatives is held at the Meeting Point Church on September 16 from 10:00 to 12:00. Brain jogging with coffee and cake is offered at the Multi-Generational House Action Sunshine on September 24 at 13:00.
