Green Party Proposes Voluntary Year in Craftsmanship - Green Party Proposes Voluntary Year in Craftsmanship for Saxony Youth
The Lübeck program, a year-long initiative to introduce participants to four training professions in crafts, has proven successful. The Green Party in Saxony has proposed a similar voluntary year in craftsmanship for young people up to 23 years old, aiming to preserve skills and training places.
The Lübeck program, set to begin in 2026, offers 120 places in various craft professions. It aims to aid career orientation and help businesses find young talent. Inspired by a successful model in the Lübeck chamber of crafts district, this voluntary year allows participants to explore different trades.
In Saxony, the Green Party has suggested a party city program. Franziska Schubert, the faction chairwoman, explained that it aims to prevent the loss of crucial skills and training opportunities. Although the party behind the 2024 application for the Saxon state parliament is unclear, the proposal has gained interest. The duration of this voluntary year is planned to be between three to twelve months, mirroring existing voluntary services. Since its launch in June 2024, the program has seen high demand from both young people and businesses.
The Lübeck program's success has inspired the Green Party in Saxony to propose a similar business program. Both initiatives aim to support young people in career exploration and help businesses find talent, with high demand already evident. The duration of the proposed Saxon program is planned to mirror existing voluntary services.
