Göttingen primary school registration opens for 2027/2028 academic year
Primary school registration for the 2027/2028 academic year will soon begin in Göttingen. Parents and guardians must attend in person at their local school on set dates in late April and early May 2026. Each institution has scheduled specific days for enrolment, with some offering multiple sessions to accommodate families. The process kicks off at Adolf-Reichwein-Schule on Monday, April 27, and Wednesday, April 29. Hagenbergschule follows shortly after, with registration on Wednesday, April 29, and Thursday, April 30.
Most schools will hold their sessions in the first week of May. Regenbogenschule, Leinebergschule, and Egelsbergschule will welcome new pupils on Monday, May 4, and Wednesday, May 6. Regenbogenschule will also open its doors on Friday, May 8.
Grundschule Südstadt and Erich Kästner-Schule have set Tuesday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 6, for enrolment. Janusz-Korczak-Schule and Mittelbergschule will register children on Tuesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 7. Wilhelm-Henneberg-Schule's sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, and Thursday, May 7.
Parents seeking to delay their child's school start must submit a written application by June 1, 2026. This requires proof of developmental delay, such as a medical report from a paediatrician or psychologist. The documentation must confirm the child is not yet ready for school. The registration window closes after the final sessions on Friday, May 8. Families should check their school's exact dates and ensure all paperwork is prepared in advance. Those requesting a deferral must meet the June 1 deadline to avoid complications for the 2028/2029 school year.
