Google’s AI overhaul transforms Classroom with smarter tools for teachers and students
Google has unveiled major updates to its AI tools for education at the BETT 2026 conference in London. The changes focus on Gemini and Google Classroom, offering new features to support both teachers and students. These include smarter dashboards, AI-powered coaching, and expanded access to advanced models.
The new Google Classroom dashboard will provide teachers with clearer insights into student progress. They can now track assignments, engagement levels, and learning standards more easily. A Writing Coach tool, developed with Khan Academy, will help students improve their writing skills.
Students will also benefit from personalised reading experiences and deadline reminders. They can query Gemini directly for assignment help and access free, full-length SAT practice tests. The platform will generate AI-powered infographics and presentations, making content creation simpler. For educators, Gemini will soon integrate with Moodle through LTI, bringing AI tools into learning management systems. Facebook Classroom’s homepage is also being redesigned as an actionable dashboard, with Gemini assisting in task completion. Teachers will receive detailed reports on how students interact with AI features. NotebookLM will serve as a source for Gemini, allowing users to pull from their notes when generating content. The updates aim to streamline workflows and enhance learning outcomes.
The changes announced at BETT 2026 will roll out gradually, giving schools access to more advanced AI support. Teachers gain better tracking and coaching tools, while students receive personalised study aids. The integration with Moodle and Facebook Classroom further expands the reach of these features.
