Gmail Updates with a Fresh Feature: 'Calendarintegration' Button
New and Improved: Google's Gemini AI Integration
Chatty-chat, here we go:
Google is on a roll, looking to integrate Gemini AI into their whole suite of products. And why not? You've even spotted the Gemini button in Gmail (feeling curious? You can always disable it if you fancy). Now, the tech giant is taking things to the next level, with email integration that uses AI to smartly add events to your Google Calendar.
This AI-powered feature is already live, so Google Workspace for Business users and Gemini Advanced subscribers can soon enjoy the new "Add to Calendar" button, brought to you by Gemini. It'll sit snugly next to the "Summarize this email" button, just above the email body.
Let's say you've got an email about an upcoming meeting with the boss. Just click the "Add to Calendar" button, and Google will do the legwork, scanning and parsing the relevant details to create a Google Calendar event for you. But no worries, Google isn't being overly eager - the event will show up in a sidebar for a quick check before it gets added to your calendar (because let's face it, even the smartest AI can have its moments).
You can use the Edit button to tweak any proposed changes or add more info. Sadly, Gemini can't handle inviting others to meetings just yet, so you'll need to hop over to the Calendar app for that. Currently, the feature is only available in English, but Google is working on expanding it to more languages.
According to Google, the global rollout of the "Add to Calendar" button might take up to two weeks. As for now, the feature only works on the web and is limited to paying subscribers. However, it's accessible to all Business plan users, even those on the cheaper Business Starter plan. Still, unsure whether a monthly payment for Gemini Advanced is worth it for you?
