Glovo Celebrates 1M Orders in Abuja, Empowering SMEs with €206M Investment
Glovo, the on-demand delivery service, has celebrated a significant milestone in Abuja. Since its launch in 2022, it has facilitated over 1 million orders and generated N11 billion in value for its partners. Meanwhile, SMEDAN and Glovo Academy have been empowering local businesses with digital tools and initiatives.
Glovo's impact in Abuja is evident. It has seen a 30% year-on-year increase in orders, working with over 1,000 local restaurants. The company has invested €206 million in Africa, generating N55 billion in direct economic value for its partners. Glovo Academy, based in Abuja, has trained over 1,000 SMEs, contributing over N11 billion in value since 2022.
Kayode Meyanbe, Head of ICT at SMEDAN, has announced a range of support for SMEs. This includes free business registration for 250,000 businesses, low-interest loans, and capacity-building programs. Tijani Mustapha, founder of Ahmad's Sharwarma, stressed the importance of technology for SMEs to remain competitive. Government representatives and SME leaders have emphasized the need for digital literacy, formalization, and resilience among SMEs. So far, 500 companies registered with Glovo Academy in Abuja will benefit from these initiatives.
Glovo's success in Abuja highlights the potential of digital platforms in boosting local economies. SMEDAN's initiatives, in conjunction with Glovo Academy, aim to formalize and empower SMEs, contributing to Nigeria's GDP, of which 40% comes from MSMEs.
