Girls' Day 2026 spotlights women breaking barriers in skilled trades

Girls' Day 2026 will focus on women in skilled trades, offering young women a chance to explore hands-on careers. The event, themed 'Women in Skilled Trades—Your Future in Hands-On Careers', includes visits to the German Bundestag and discussions with female professionals. Registration is now open, but spaces are limited. The initiative targets female students and young women aged 14 to 21. Organised with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin, it aims to challenge traditional gender roles in the workforce. Participants will meet female politicians and successful tradeswomen to learn about career paths in fields like climate technology, energy, and electrical engineering.

Martin Plum, a key supporter, believes the event can inspire young women to consider skilled trades. Activities include tours of the Bundestag to observe parliamentary work alongside practical insights into trades. However, attendees must cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Registration closes on April 10, 2026. Interested participants can sign up through the foundation's website.

The event highlights opportunities in skilled trades, from renewable energy to engineering. By connecting young women with professionals, it provides direct exposure to potential careers. Organisers hope the experience will encourage more women to enter these growing sectors.
