German woman Jutta Loesch honored with Federal Cross of Merit award
In the heart of Germany, a former teacher named Jutta Loesch has been making a significant impact, not only in her local community but also across the border in the Berehowe region of Ukraine.
Loesch founded the initiative 'Daily Bread for Beregovo' back in the day, which later evolved into the association 'Daily Bread for Beregowo - Help for People in Transcarpathia e.V.' This organisation has been a crucial source of funds for the people in Berehowe, who have been suffering from poverty and war for over two decades.
Loesch's dedication to helping the Berehowe region was sparked after a trip to Ukraine, where she witnessed the suffering of the people firsthand. This experience led her to establish the sewing and German learning circle 'Nähen und Deutschlernen' in Neu-Isenburg, whose proceeds benefit the people in Berehowe.
The partnership between the Offenbach district and the west Ukrainian city of Berehowe was founded in 2024, and it is built upon the foundation established by Loesch's connection to the region. This partnership has been instrumental in the aid efforts, which have significantly increased since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Over the years, Loesch and her team have organised over 90 aid shipments, including food, clothing, generators, and medical supplies. These shipments have been targeted towards a supply kitchen, an old people's home, a mother and child home, a dementia home, a farm, and schools in Berehowe.
In addition to her work in Ukraine, Loesch is also involved in the integration of refugees and women with migration experience in Neu-Isenburg. Her organisation, 'Frauen helfen Frauen,' focuses on this aspect and donates its revenue to the people in Berehowe.
Landrat Oliver Quilling, the district administrator, has recognised Loesch's commitment, stating that without her voluntary work, many things in society would be missing. He also highlighted her courage, organisational talent, seemingly inexhaustible energy, and heart in building sustainable aid over decades.
Quilling's words were echoed by others, who have observed Loesch's ability to motivate students of the Goetheschule to help load the aid truck. This dedication has not gone unnoticed, as Loesch was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her tireless efforts in Ukrainian aid.
In conclusion, Jutta Loesch's commitment to helping the people in Berehowe, Ukraine, has been a beacon of hope for many. Her work, both in Germany and Ukraine, continues to inspire and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
