German teachers get AI-powered tools to cut workload and boost efficiency

Teachers in Germany are facing growing challenges, from staff shortages to heavier administrative loads. To ease the pressure, educational publisher Westermann has launched new AI-powered tools designed to save time on grading and lesson planning. These services are now built into the company's digital textbooks and comply with strict data protection rules.

Westermann's latest AI services include the AI Grading Assistant and the AI Task Generator. The Grading Assistant provides instant, curriculum-aligned feedback on student work, drawing only from approved textbook content. If needed, it can also generate model answers to support teachers' assessments.

The Task Generator simplifies lesson preparation by creating three text-based assignments—at different difficulty levels—with a single click. Both tools are fully integrated into Westermann's **BiBox** teaching system, which provides digital instructional materials. Schools and teachers can access these AI features at no extra cost with a valid textbook licence. The services meet GDPR standards, ensuring student data remains protected. Beyond software, Westermann also hosts AI training events, such as an upcoming impulse talk on 18 April 2026 in Ludwigsburg. Meanwhile, **fobizz**, a leading German-language platform for AI tools in education, has partnered with award-winning schools like Freiherr-vom-Stein (FvS) to embed AI training into teaching for the 2025/26 academic year.

The new AI tools aim to cut down on routine tasks, giving teachers more time for direct student support. With no additional fees and full GDPR compliance, Westermann's services are set to roll out across schools using its digital textbooks. Training programmes from platforms like fobizz will further help educators adopt these technologies in daily teaching.
