Lower Saxony and Hamburg want to set rules for mobile phones at schools - German States Rethink Smartphone Rules in Schools with New Framework
Lower Saxony and Hamburg are teaming up to tackle smartphone use in schools. They're unveiling a joint framework this Thursday, aiming to replace blanket bans with more nuanced guidance.
Hamburg's Education Senator Ksenija Bekeris and her Lower Saxony counterpart Julia Willie have joined forces to create this framework. They've worked together with academic experts to provide official guidance for schools managing digital devices.
The new guidelines will be presented in Hannover by Julia Willie, Ksenija Bekeris, Tanja Brunnert, and the State Student Council. These guidelines aim to help schools make informed decisions about phone use, rather than imposing outright bans. This approach is a departure from the consensus among all 16 states, with only Lower Saxony and Hamburg moving forward together on this issue.
The new phone usage guidelines for schools will be revealed this Thursday afternoon. These guidelines, a result of collaboration between Lower Saxony and Hamburg, aim to assist schools in managing digital devices more effectively.
