Survey: School Leaders Lack Time for Leadership Tasks - German school principals overwhelmed by staff shortages and heavy workloads

Schools across Germany are facing severe staff shortages and overburdened leadership. A new survey by the German Association of School Principals (DSLK) reveals that many principals lack the time to manage their schools effectively. The findings also highlight deep concerns about teacher shortages and rising workloads for those in charge. The survey shows that 82% of school principals do not have enough time to run their schools properly. Only 18% believe the hours allocated for management tasks are sufficient. Many cite expanding duties, heavy administrative loads, and tight schedules as their biggest stressors. The survey paints a clear picture of the challenges facing German schools. Principals are stretched thin, teacher shortages persist, and administrative demands keep growing. Without intervention, the strain on school leaders and staff is likely to worsen in the coming years.
