German-Czech Future Fund Supports 161 Renovation Projects

The German-Czech Future Fund has greenlit funding for 161 new projects, totalling around €1.5 million. This latest round of support highlights a growing involvement from younger groups in preserving shared cultural heritage across both countries.

The initiatives span restorations, educational exchanges, and creative works that bridge history between Germany and the Czech Republic.

Among the key restorations, eight historic gravestones and the main cross at the German cemetery in Kerhartice will be repaired. The site, once renewed, will continue serving as a gathering place for spiritual, cultural, and German-Czech events. Meanwhile, the ruins of an old Protestant church in Rudník will undergo structural reinforcement, with plans to re-roof the tower as part of the first phase.

A total of 30 monuments will receive funding, including 18 churches, 2 synagogues, 6 German cemeteries, and 4 Jewish cemeteries. These projects will share approximately €480,000 of the allocated budget.

Beyond physical restorations, the fund is backing cultural and educational efforts. A German-Czech TV documentary, The Invisible Wall, will explore Prague’s vibrant cultural scene during the interwar years. The production is led by director and producer Hajo Schomerus.

Younger generations are also taking part through initiatives like a student exchange between Neckargemünd and Jindřichův Hradec. Under the theme Never again! – 80 Years Since the End of the War, participants will examine historical legacies and their relevance today.

The latest funding round marks a shift toward broader engagement, with younger communities playing an active role in heritage preservation. The 161 projects will strengthen ties between Germany and the Czech Republic through restored landmarks, educational programmes, and creative storytelling.
