Gera Library's 'Quill & Stardust' Writing Competition Announces 2025 Winners
The Gera library's 'Quill & Stardust' writing competition, supported by Sparkasse Gera-Greiz, the State School Office of Ostthuringia, and the Library Support Association 'Book and Reader' e.V., has announced its winners. The competition, held for the third time, attracted 56 entries from participants aged 9 to 18, with winners in each age group.
In the youngest age group (9-11), Mira Ladusch, Lena Melinda Mittag, and Marina Witzsche took the top three spots with 192, 186, and 179 points respectively. For the 12-14 age group, Charlotte Kielstein, Marlene Anna Dörling, and Philomena Gröbel won with 185, 178, and 175 points. Lastly, in the 15-18 age group, Leonie Körmer, Wencke Druse, and Sina Teske secured the top positions with 190, 186, and 183 points. Each winner's story was read aloud at the award ceremony.
Participants had to choose one of two magic hats containing ten words each and use all words from the chosen hat in their story, with a maximum length of two A4 pages. A five-member jury evaluated the stories based on criteria such as expression, grammar, word choice, tension, individuality, and originality, with a maximum of 200 points.
The Gera library's 'Quill & Stardust' writing competition, now in its third year, continues to inspire young writers. With diverse entries from locations like Gera, Weida, Bad Köstritz, Naumburg, Potsdam, Ravensburg, and Tübingen, the competition fosters creativity and encourages young talent.
