Garissa University expands with 24 new classrooms to ease overcrowding
Garissa University, the sole public university in Northern Kenya, is expanding its facilities to address long-standing space shortages. The project, supported by the M-Pesa Foundation, will create a modern tuition complex designed to enhance learning conditions for thousands of students.
The university currently grapples with overcrowding, forcing students to compete for classrooms, resources, and lab space. These constraints have made it challenging to deliver effective skills-based education, especially in digital and innovation-focused fields.
The new expansion will add 24 classrooms and laboratory rooms to the campus. This growth is anticipated to alleviate pressure on existing facilities and provide a better learning environment. Once complete, the complex will accommodate around 5,200 students, significantly boosting capacity.
