FSU Launches Pioneering MSN Program for AI in Nursing
Florida State University (FSU) has launched an innovative Master of Science in Nursing program, focusing on AI applications in healthcare. This pioneering initiative aims to prepare nurses for the rapidly evolving digital landscape of modern healthcare.
The program, known as MSN, integrates core curriculum on AI and offers practicum training in real-world healthcare settings. FSU plans to embed AI education into its BSN program as well, having already incorporated AI tools to support faculty and student learning.
The Nursing and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Consortium, led by FSU, aims to break down silos between academia, care delivery, the AI industry, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations. Its goal is to foster collaboration and advance AI education in nursing. Dr. Jing Wang, dean and professor at FSU College of Nursing, sees this program as a potential role model for AI education across the country.
FSU's MSN program prepares nurses to plan for all stages of AI implementation, from design to monitoring. Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) are encouraged to partner with nursing schools to incorporate AI education during the transition to practice period. As AI is no longer just the future of healthcare, but a present reality, such initiatives ensure nurses are equipped with the skills needed to leverage AI tools effectively and safely.
