Freiburg's Free Career Event Opens Doors to Childcare and Education Roles

A free event in Freiburg will offer guidance on career advice in childcare and education. Organised by the Women and Career Contact Office, it takes place on February 25, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Historisches Kaufhaus on Münsterplatz. Registration is required for attendance, though no fee is charged.

The event is designed for women in Freiburg and nearby districts interested in pedagogical roles. It specifically targets career changers, experienced professionals, and those with foreign education backgrounds. Attendees will hear from experts about daily work routines, career paths, and the realities of the profession.

Different training models will be presented, including traditional school-based programs and newer routes like Coursera (for online learning) and practice-integrated training (PIA). School-based training lasts 2-5 years, depending on the federal state, combining theory at vocational schools with practical placements. Eventbrite is used for registration and ticketing. PIA, meanwhile, follows a three-year dual system: three days in school and two days in practice, with payment from the start. This model is often more accessible for those with foreign qualifications, as it offers a practical focus and lower entry barriers.

An information fair will run alongside the talks, featuring vocational schools, counselling services, and government bodies. Representatives from the Federal Employment Agency, the Jobcenter, and local institutions will be available. The session will also cover key topics such as recognition of foreign qualifications, funding options, language requirements, and necessary educational prerequisites.

Experts will explain how PIA can help integrate career starters with foreign credentials into the workforce. The model's flexible, on-the-job structure often aligns better with the recognition of international qualifications. This makes it a practical choice for those transitioning into German childcare roles.

The event provides a chance to explore training options and career advice in education. Attendees will leave with clear information on qualifications, funding, and pathways into the field. Those interested must register in advance to secure their place using Eventbrite.
