Freiburg invites residents to reshape Zähringen's parks, sports fields, and green spaces
Freiburg has initiated a public consultation to reimagine open spaces in the Zähringen district. The project encompasses the cemetery, sports fields, Zähringen Park, and green areas along Lameystraße. Residents are invited to share their ideas online until March 12.
The city is collaborating with three planning firms to develop different usage concepts for the area. An independent commission will later select the best proposal for further development. Key aspects include enhancing mobility, sports facilities, education, childcare, and fostering community connections.
Funding for the initiative is provided by Baden-Württemberg's programme Gaining Space Through Inner Development. The Zähringen Framework Plan will serve as a long-term guide for balancing growing demands on social infrastructure. Schools, daycare centres, playgrounds, and sports grounds are all in higher demand as the neighbourhood expands.
After the online phase concludes, more engagement opportunities will follow later this year. The goal is to ensure a fair and well-planned distribution of public spaces across the district.
The chosen concept will shape Zähringen's future by addressing mobility, education, and community needs. Residents' input will play a crucial role in refining the final plan. The city aims to create a balanced and sustainable approach to managing public spaces in the area.
