Four Chandina hospitals shut down over severe healthcare violations
Authorities in Chandina Upazila, Cumilla, have temporarily shut down four private hospitals and diagnostic centers due to serious irregularities. The move follows regular inspections that uncovered a range of issues. Among the closed facilities are Ibne Sina Hospital, New Chandina Medical Centre, an unnamed private hospital, and Doa Diagnostic Centre. Some centers were found to be operating without essential staff such as doctors, technicians, or cleaners on duty. Several facilities were also found to be lacking valid licenses and failed to display price lists in Bengali, making it difficult for patients to understand the costs. The inspections also revealed that dengue cases were not being reported to the health department, and expired reagents were being used. Some labs were found to be operating without pathological fridges, color-coded bins, and X-ray rooms were functioning without trained technicians. The lack of detailed ownership and management information for these facilities further compounded the issue. The institutions have been given a week to rectify the issues and submit a report to the civil surgeon's office. Regular inspections will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of patients in the district. The temporary closure aims to address these irregularities and maintain the standard of healthcare services.
