Florida's youth build futures through hands-on construction career training

The Treasure Coast Builders Association (TCBA) is helping students explore careers in home construction through hands-on training and community outreach. Each February, the industry marks Career and Technical Education Month, highlighting efforts like TCBA's programmes for young people.

TCBA runs a five-day Skills in Construction Week for high school juniors and seniors. The programme teaches construction trades alongside soft skills like teamwork and communication. In 2023, 26 students completed it, with five receiving job offers and ten moving into trade school or the industry.

The association also organises half-day Career & Construction Days with local schools. During the 2024-25 academic year, these events reached 78 students across two counties. Beyond schools, TCBA partners with the Home Builders Institute's Future Builders of America initiative and local Boys & Girls Clubs.

Since launching Skills in Construction Week in 2023, over 15,000 students have started apprenticeships or training in construction trades by February 2026. Financial support comes from the TCBA Inc. Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) that awards scholarships and grants to students entering trade schools or the workforce directly.

TCBA's programmes aim to connect students with long-term careers in residential construction. Through scholarships, hands-on training, and industry partnerships, the association continues to expand opportunities for young people in the trade. Over 15,000 have already entered the field since the initiative began.
