FIU Launches Student-Led Cybersecurity SOC with TekStream Partnership
Florida International University has collaborated with cybersecurity firm TekStream to establish a novel student-run security operations center (SOC). Inspired by TekStream’s Workforce Academy, this initiative will offer students practical experience in cybersecurity, preparing them for careers in the field. The inaugural group of participants will commence managing SOC tasks this autumn.
The partnership aims to attract high-achieving students, providing them with over two years of hands-on cybersecurity experience by graduation. The SOC will concentrate on crucial aspects such as threat hunting, log analysis, incident response, and risk reporting. Students will operate in a live, production-grade environment, utilizing enterprise security technology supplied by Splunk.
The SOC will deliver hands-on training in a professional setting, exposing students directly to cybersecurity challenges. With industry backing and a structured upskilling approach, the program strives to connect education and employment in the cybersecurity sector.
