Expert Silke Müller Warns: 'Social Media a Shark Tank' for Kids

Education expert Silke Müller, renowned for her insightful views on digital media, will deliver a lecture titled 'Social Media: A Shark Tank' at the Volkshochschule Herford on November 20. Müller, who serves as a school principal, digital ambassador of Lower Saxony, and bestselling author, will discuss the potential hazards of social media, particularly for children and adolescents.

The event, organized in cooperation with the Kreis Herford's education office, is aimed at school professionals and interested parties. Müller will critically examine disturbing content, such as violence, pornography, racism, and war-related depictions, encountered by elementary school students in social networks. She will warn about the potential exacerbation of these dynamics by artificial intelligence.

Müller, who fights for ethical and democratic values in the digital world, will not just focus on screen time but delve into the subtle dangers of algorithmically driven distribution of shocking content and the risk of grooming. She will also emphasize the importance of fostering the positive, creative potential of digital media while protecting children.

The lecture, scheduled for November 20 at the Volkshochschule Herford, costs 10 euros for admission. Interested parties are encouraged to register by November 17 via email at [email protected] or by phone at 05221 59050. Müller's expertise and passion for the subject make this event a must-attend for anyone concerned about the digital landscape and its impact on our children.
