Endicott College Upgrades Collaborative Learning Space with Extron NAV Pro AV Over IP System
Endicott College, a small liberal arts college located 20 miles north of Boston, has upgraded its Team Building Room to enhance collaborative learning. The college's Audio Video Services department, in partnership with Integrated Multimedia Solutions (IMS), has installed an AV-enabled collaborative classroom in the Garrish School of Business' Team Building Room.
The upgrade, completed during the 2023 college winter break, utilizes Extron NAV Pro AV over IP products. This technology enables high-quality video and audio over standard network infrastructure, improving collaboration by allowing seamless sharing, routing, and scaling of AV content among participants.
The Team Building Room, built in 2013, accommodates 40-48 students working in groups and has always featured connectivity and multimedia information sharing. With the new system, each team table is equipped to power and connect student laptops and other BYODs.
The AV system now includes a NAVigator with Link License upgrade for 48 endpoints, 10 Extron NAV E 101 encoders, 11 NAV SD101 scaling decoders, an IPCP Pro 360Q xi control processor, and a touchpanel. A dedicated NAV VLAN has been established for the AV devices and switches.
Moreover, a network switch was installed in the teaching station's equipment rack to ensure the room's operation continues even in case of a network outage. The instructor station has its own connection cables for laptops or other BYODs and houses AV system components including the audio amplifier, Extron IP Link Pro control processor, and the NAVigator System Manager.
Existing furniture such as eight media collaboration tables and a Spectrum Industries Freedom XRS Elite height-adjustable lectern were repurposed in the Team Building Room. A pair of Extron FF 220 speakers and an MPA 601 audio amp were added, while the existing two NEC laser projectors and Da-Lite Advantage Electrol projection screens were reused.
The upgrade to the Team Building room has led to fewer help desk calls, according to April, the college's AV Services department head. Other spaces on campus could also benefit from similar AV updates, as they have regular requests for capabilities outside of what the rooms were designed to do.
The original XTP system in the Team Building Room was replaced due to its nearing the decade mark and to test ground for future upgrades. The college believes that this AV upgrade will foster a more interactive and dynamic learning environment, further prioritizing collaborative learning at Endicott College.
