Young people and young adults in Germany, aged up to 27, have the chance to learn more about the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) on January 6, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This informative session will provide comprehensive and individualised information about the FSJ.

The Voluntary Social Year offers a wide range of deployment options across various sectors. These include healthcare and elder care, youth education and non-formal learning, environmental conservation and sustainability projects, cultural institutions, and event volunteering. Additionally, international solidarity projects through European programs are also available.

Several organisations offer these placements. The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) provides 52-week volunteering placements in diverse fields such as youth work, sustainability, and social projects in countries like Germany. Festival and Event Networks, like Höme for Festivals, offer volunteer roles at events, focusing on sustainability and accessibility. Local and regional social and environmental organisations, government-supported national platforms, and even some state or city agencies and NGOs coordinate placements within Germany and across Europe.

Participants must have fulfilled their full-time school obligation and be willing to engage socially outside of school and work for 6 to 18 months. The Voluntary Social Year is an option for those who want to try themselves out before joining a profession or need time for career choice before committing to a career.

The information session will be conducted by employees of the International Youth Community Services (ijgd), and the telephone number to contact them for more information is 0228 / 22800 - 22. Interested participants can apply through specific portals or forms connected to these organisations.

The reasons for choosing a Voluntary Social Year are as diverse as the deployment options. Some young people and young adults opt for an FSJ after graduation, while others seek to engage for the common good. Regardless of the motivation, the Voluntary Social Year offers deployment options with diverse opportunities.

The Voluntary Social Year is carried out by approved carriers such as welfare associations, religious communities, state institutions, and non-profit organisations. Deployment opportunities for the Voluntary Social Year include children's and care facilities, sports clubs, museums, and more.

In summary, the Voluntary Social Year presents a unique opportunity for young people and young adults in Germany to gain valuable experience, learn new skills, and make a positive impact on their communities. The informative session on January 6 is a great starting point for those interested in exploring this opportunity further.
